The Resiliency

The Resiliency

In August of 2004, I began throwing around the idea of writing a book about an enigmatic 49-year-old mentally retarded man named LeRoy Buchholz. I had the privilege of working with LeRoy while I attended college in La Crosse, Wisconsin and during this time we developed a bond far stronger than I had anticipated. In the two years I spent with him he revealed to me one of the most intriguing tales of the human condition. I wrote this book to honor LeRoy and to spread the tale of his sordid life. His life was laid out to me like a fable as I sat awe stricken by the details of the events that laid the foundation for a life full of accidents, substance abuse, salted beer, lawn mowers, chain smoking, Elvis Presley and a cat named Sassy.

Here are a few selections from the book. These selections will change from time to time but this will have to do until a publisher finds this story fit to print.

About the author: D.R. Monroe

D.R. Monroe was born on a farm in Winfield, Illinois in 1982.  He grew up in a suburb in Minnesota and at the age of seven he mastered Sanskrit and could pasteurize any form of dairy. He has a BA in Philosophy from UW-L and a Masters from St. John’s College in the Great Books, which means he has two useless degrees that he uses as placemats when he gets home from his job at Denny’s. He writes incessantly, hoping that someone, somewhere will accidentally read what he has written. He now resides in Santa Fe, New Mexico where he lives with his golden retriever.
